Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation.
SEO describes the techniques used to give your website the exposure it needs to reach the people you want to see it. There are a number of things you can do which are quite simple but often missed. When you get a website you will get emails from companies telling you they can get you onto the first page of Google. You should ignore these! The search engine companies will penalise you if you use quick-fix techniques to try to cheat the search engines. These techniques, sometimes call black-hat methods only work for a short time and then you are shut out from the results!

Google and other search engines are only interested in providing the best informative answer they can find to the enquiries made to them. To get a page from your website offered up by the search engines you need therefore to have well informed useful pages that clearly answer search engine enquiries. For example if someone types “Kitchen Fitter Folkestone” into Google and you run a small building company doing extensions, bathrooms, garages, kitchens and other works then putting each type of building work you do (service) as a separate page increases your chances of being found and it also makes it easier to promote the page. Ideally if you could have different kitchen pages for say Folkestone, Dover, Maidstone then you really are starting to differentiate yourself. This could be the case if say you knew of different planning regulations in Folkestone so you could say something about how your kitchen fitting service conforms to Folkestone's special requirements.

To achieve this you are advised to follow these guidelines.

  1. Make a list of keywords and key phrases for your business.
  2. Make sure you use some of these phrases on your pages. You can use them several times but don’t overdo it. Your page must read sensibly to a human reader and also to a search engine.
  3. Use a clear page title for example “Kitchen Fitting in Folkestone” or “Solid Wood Kitchen Fitting In Canterbury”
  4. Use a descriptive website address for the page:
    www.mybuild.co.uk/kitchens-kent-canterbury-folkestone/solid-wood-kitchen-fitting

    is better than

    www.mybuild.co.uk/kitchen-fitting
  5. Get some external links into your site – preferably from higher ranking sites
  6. Keep your site up to date with fresh information
  7. Add video if practical

The software I use makes it easy to carryout 2, 3 and 4 above. I can advise and help you to prepare 1, 5, 6 and 7. In addition the software has features built in to update meta data and produce sitemaps for submitting to Google and Bing and other search engines.

One customer I replaced a site for was way down in the search engines. He was paying £300+ a month for SEO and getting nowhere. By replacing his site with my software and then following the above guidelines and adding in two new targeted pages a month he was on the top of page one of Google within three months. To stay there all that is required is carry on adding a couple of well targeted pages a month and also publishing these in social media such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Providing you are adding valuable accurate and well written material Google will soon learn to find you.

If you find adding in two targeted pages a month too time consuming I can do these for you for £85 each.

Please contact me if you would like an in-depth explanation of the ideas described on this page.
